Paradise was originally called Eldorado when it was settled in the 1870s but it was renamed because it was already taken so the name Paradise Prairie was suggested and accepted because of the wildflowers surrounding the site. It was later shortened to Paradise because according to tradition, the area was a cowboy's "paradise" and a post office branch was opened in 1876. In 1893, the Rock Island line of the railroad arrived so the town was moved a mile northeast to take advantage of the railroad. The city is currently found on State Highway 114 six miles southwest of Decatur in southwestern Wise County. Despite being near the county seat of Decatur, this city in Wise County, Texas still prospered. By 1900 the town had two cotton gins, two lumberyards, two hotels, a grade school, and a weekly newspaper, the Paradise Echo. The City of Paradise is also served by the Paradise Independent School District and the Teate Field Airport (4XS2) (Runways: 1) is also located here. With a total area of 2.0 square miles, they reached a population of 500 in 2017.
