Peaster is named for H. H. Peaster who moved to the area from Georgia in the 1870s and built a house on the 160 acres he purchased. It was formerly known as Freemont, then renamed to Peasterville in the mid-1880s, then later the Ville suffix was dropped. The population reached 100 in the 1890s, growing to 300 residents in the mid-1920s. Peaster is also an unincorporated community in Parker County, Texas, and is located on Farm Road 920 nine miles northwest of Weatherford in northwestern Parker County. Robert E. Howard, pulp fiction writer, and creator of Conan the Barbarian was born in Peaster before moving to his longtime home of Cross Plains, Texas. Also, the Peaster Independent School District serves the community and home to the Peaster High School Greyhounds. The population was 102 in 2000.
