Pep was originally part of the Yellow House Ranch of the XIT Ranch and much of the farmland was sold to Catholic Germans and even named the area for their pastor, Rev. Francis Ledwig. A post office with the ZIP code of 79353 was opened in 1936 but the name Ledwig was unsuitable and so, Pep was chosen as the town's new name, to reflect an admired characteristic of its residents. This an unincorporated community in northwestern Hockley County, Texas is located on the Farm to Market Road 303, on the high plains of the Llano Estacado just to the west of the historic Yellow House Ranch or near the Lamb county boundary in northwestern Hockley County. It reached an estimated population of 30 in 2009. Also, public education in the community of Pep is provided by the Morton Independent School District.
