Formerly an isolated fish camo called Red Fish Landing, Port Mansfield is now a port and fishing community in northeastern Willacy County. The port was opened in 1950 by the United States Army Corps of Engineers. The port was named after the United States Representative Joseph J. Mansfield. The sport and commercial fish economy of Port Mansfield had expanded greatly after the Port Mansfield Channel was completed in 1962. The Port Mansfield Nature Park covers a mixture of tidal flats and coastal grassland. Interesting activities including fishing, dolphin-sighting and kayaking are reasons why tourists are attracted to Port Mansfield.
