Red Rock is an unincorporated community in Bastrop County. Initially, this place was referred to as Hannah Land. The area is said to have been named after a red rock that was used in building a chimney of James Brewer’s house. Brewer was among the first settlers in this place in the 1850s. A post office was founded here in 1870 and the Missouri, Kansas, and Texas railroad extension attracted this community towards the rail. The community's primary economic development was based on cotton production. Later in the 1920s, oil was discovered on this site leading to the development of oil wells in the 1930s.
