The U.S based city of Rhome is found in Wise County, Texas, along U.S Highway 287/81. The first settlers moved to this area at the end of the 1850s. Samuel Sheets was one of the early settlers in this place. In 1858, Samuel Sheets sold town lots. Consequently, a post office was established in this area the same year. The area was initially known as Prairie Point. By the 1860s, this was the second-largest settlement in the county. However, the area was vulnerable to attacks during the Civil War leading to its desertion in 1863. The establishment of Fort Worth and Denver City Railway rekindled the area's growth under the name Rhome. The name was in honor of a successful rancher, Col. Byron Crandall Rhome.
