The U.S unincorporated community of Richards sits along the Farm Road 149 and 1486 in Grimes County. The community was founded in 1907 after the completion of Trinity and Brazos Valley Railway, which crossed the road between Longstreet and Fairview. The area was named after W. E. Richards, who was an organizer and renowned banker of Valley Route and Townsite Loan Company. The first post office in this place was founded with Jim Lieb as its postmaster. O. A. Hamilton and Green Davis established the Richards State Bank. In 1914, the Richards Methodist Church was also founded in this area.
