The U.S town of Richland is located at the intersection of the State Highway 14 and Interstate 45 in Navarro County. The area was first settled in the 1840s. By 1848, Asa Chambers had established a store in this area. Later a post office opened in Chamber’s store and named after Richland Crossing. In 1871, the Houston and Texas Railway was constructed through Richland, and in 1878, a new post office was established in the area. By the mid-1890s, Richland had established cotton gins, gristmills, general stores, and a bank. The first school was opened here just before the Civil War.
