The U.S city of Rio Hondo is found near Farm Road 508 and Farm Road 1846 in Cameron County in the state of Texas. The city was first established in 1910. Rio Hondo is a Spanish name that refers to a deep river. J. R. George was the first settler in this area. George operated a general store here. In 1911, the first post office was founded with J. R. George as the first postmaster. By 1914, this city had established stores, businesses, and a restaurant. The city was incorporated later in 1939. The U.S Postal Service operates Rio Hondo Post Office.
