The U.S Texas city of Riverside is located along Farm Road 405 in Walker County. The city was established in 1872 by the Houston and Great Northern Railroad. Its strategic location near Trinity River created a reliable access to river and rail transportation. The first post office was moved to this area in 1872 with William D. Shaw as its first postmaster. The earliest economic activity in Riverside was cotton farming which was later replaced by lumbering. By the 1880s the city had two general stores, a gristmill and two hotels. Later in 1920, Fuller’s earth was discovered in Riverside significantly boosting its economy.
