Riviera is a census-designated place in the United States located along the U.S Highway 77 in Kleberg County, Texas. Theodore F. Koch who was a land promoter originally from Minnesota founded this place. The move was after Koch bought land from Henrietta King in 1907. Koch subdivided the land sold to other buyers. Koch established a townsite near the St. Louis, Brownsville and Mexico Railway after its completion in 1904. Koch named this place Riviera after the France Southern coast. A post office was founded in Riviera in 1907. A drought that hit this area in 1915, slowed down its growth. However, the construction of roads in this area in the 1920s encouraged the development of this area.
