The U.S city of Rockwall is located at the junction of State Highways 66 and 205 in Rockwall County. In the late 1840s the first Anglo-Americans reached this area from Illinois. A Baptist Church was founded in Rockwall in 1852. Rockwall was first established in 1854 after Elijah Elgin donated land. In the same year, the first post office was established in this area. Rockwall became a County Seat in 1873 after it was split from Kaufman County. The town was later incorporated in 1874. The Missouri, Kansas and Texas reached Rockwall in 1886. The railroad made it a shipping point for wheat, corn and cotton.
