Roosevelt is located along Ranch Road 291 in Kimble County, Texas, United States. The first post office was opened in 1898. The place was founded by W.B Wagoner who named it after Theodore Roosevelt. Theodore reportedly visited this place accompanied by the First United States Volunteer Cavalry. Moreover, Roosevelt played an important role in shipment of supplies and feeds for goats and sheep ranchers. The place also hosted polo matches in the 1920s. Ranchers in this area bred horses for the U.S cavalry and ponies for the national market. In 1925, The Peterson and Riek Ranch imported Angora goats from South Africa.
