Roscoe was initially known as Vista after a Texas and Pacific Railway official. The railway was constructed through this city in 1881. The name was changed to Roscoe in 1892 after the citizens applied for a post office. In 1894, a rail flag stop was moved near this city, which propelled its growth. The area was incorporated in 1907, and the first city council meeting was conducted the same year.
