Sandia is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Jim Wells County, Texas, United States. It has a population of 379 according to the last census. The settlement was established by Spain in 1802 and the name means watermelon which was probably its main source of income. The median income is rather high for the city of that size. It’s about 45.000 a year for an average family. The town is on high ground 1 mile (1.6 km) south of Lake Corpus Christi, an impoundment on the Nueces River.
