Saratoga is an unincorporated community in Hardin County, Texas, United States. It doesn’t have a local government but it does have a zip code and it’s 77585. The community was first called New Sour Lake because of the sulfate-smelling spring discovered in the 1850s. The name was changed to Saratoga to resemble Saratoga Springs, New York. It was a marketing move used to sell the medicinal properties of the saltwater. The population fluctuated from 1000 to 350 over the years. Saratoga is the birthplace of country music icon George Jones.
