Scottsville is a city in Harrison County, Texas, United States. At the last census it had a population of 376. The area was settled in 1840 by William Thomas Scott, his wife Mary Rose, and other members of their family, and that’s where the name comes from. It was said that Scott had a mansion made to resemble that of Jefferson Davis’ and that he was the largest slave holder in the area. At the last census the median income of the family living in Scottsville was about $30.000 About half of the population is non-Hispanic white and about half is African American. Public education in the city of Scottsville is provided by the Marshall Independent School District.
