Shelbyville is an unincorporated community in Shelby County, Texas, United States. It has a population of 215 based on the census of 2000. The town was founded in 1820 by the settlers coming from Nashville, Tennessee, region. It was renamed Shelbyville in 1837 to honor the American Revolution hero and Kentucky Governor Isaac Shelby. Light and Champion is a news and information company that has been operational in Shelbyville for 143 years now. It produces a weekly print edition, a weekly free-distribution print product called The Merchandiser, operates a web site, www.lightandchampion.com, and a Facebook page.
