Shiro is an unincorporated community in Grimes County, Texas. It’s estimated that it has a population of about 200. The site was settled in 1830 and the legend says that the name was chosen by a postmaster who selected it from a nursery catalog. Shiro became a shipping center for cattle, and cotton around 1913 and the town got a weekly newspaper by 1915. During the 20s Shiro's sixteen businesses lined the highway. The population declined after Great Depression and WW2. There used to be a cotton gin which is now turned into a feed store.
