Sierra Blanca is a town in Hudspeth County, Texas, United States. It has a population of a bit over 500 and it’s the seat of the county. It was founded in 1881 and it was the end point of a long transcontinental railway at the time. It has about 170 households with a median income of $33.000 per family. The cost of living in Sierra Blanca is about 20 percent lower than the national average. In the 1990s the town had a sludge dump that received sewage from New York City, but that practice was discontinued in the 2000s. There was also a plan to hold nuclear waste in the city, but that was declined by the public.
