South Bend is an unincorporated community in Young County, Texas, United States. It has a population of about 140. The area was settled at the late 1890s. When a post office was established, the name had changed to South Bend, after its location at a bend on the Clear Fork of the Brazos River. Oil was discovered in the 1920s and it caused a brief boom in the city’s economy. At that point it had as much as 500 residents. The city declined in population and wealth after the Great Depression and World War 2.
