Southmayd (the latter syllable pronounced like "maid") is a city in Grayson County, Texas, United States. The population was just below 1000 at the last census. The average income of a family living in a city is about $44.000. It’s named after D. S. Southmayd, a local landowner, the town got started with the arrival of the Texas & Pacific Railroad in the early 1880s. The population survived the Great Depression but it took a dive in the 1970s. The water tower is its most recognizable structure.a
