Spurger is an unincorporated community in southeastern Tyler County, Texas, United States. The name comes from a family name of early settlers. It’s been said that the city was settled in the 1830s. The first school and the post office came in the 1850s. As is the case with most cities in the area it had a population boom by the 1920s when the railroad was being built and when the settlers from other states came, but it took a fall after the Great Depression and even more so after the war.
