Stratford is a city in Sherman County, Texas, United States. It has a population of a bit over 2.000. It is the county seat of Sherman County. The city is named for Stratford, Virginia, the boyhood home of Robert Edward Lee, the Confederate commanding general. It has about 700 households and they earn $37.000 a year on average. It once featured a court house that was abandoned in the beginning of 20th century. It’s been told that stones from the 1901 Stratford Courthouse were used to create a small dam on the Coldwater Creek. Stratford retains its old railroad depot as the Sherman County Museum
