Sumner is an unincorporated community, 12 miles west of Paris, in Lamar County, Texas, United States. It’s served by North Lamar Independent School District. It was named to honor an early settler, Moses Sumner, the town had a post office open in 1885. The city didn’t have a railroad and that’s what slowed its growth in the early 20th century. With the Great depression and post WW2 mobility it has lost most of its residents and is now a rather small community.
