Sweeny is a city in Brazoria County, Texas, United States, the westernmost incorporated town in the county. It has a population of about 3.600. The city has about 1300 household and the median income of a family living in it is about $42.000. The settlement began before Texas was a Republic, but it wasn’t under the name of Sweeney. The town site was planted in 1911 and the oil was discovered in Sweeny in the 1930s. Schools are part of the Sweeny Independent School District which serves the city of Sweeny as well as outlying areas including Churchill, Shady Acres, River's End and Old Ocean.
