Sweet is a US unincorporated community located in Lavaca County in the state of Texas. Its population as at the 2000 census was 360. In 1853, Solomon West, an Alabama native, bought 2,214 acres of land in Lavaca County. The community’s name was derived from West’s daughter’s hope that the new area would make a “sweet home” for them. In 1860, West established stables, a hotel and a store at the site. The community currently hosts a school, several businesses, a fire department, and two churches. Although this community is unincorporated, it boasts of a post office whose postal code is 77987.
