Taft is a city in San Patricio County, Texas, United States. It has a population of about 3.000 according to the last census. The ranch on which the city was built was owned by the brother of president Taft and it was named for him. The city was rich in cotton, oil, and gas, which made it prosperous in different times. On the evening of 25 August 2017, Hurricane Harvey, a Category 4 Hurricane, made landfall near Rockport, Texas approximately thirty miles north of Taft, at 10 PM CST. Taft was brushed by the outer-bands of the eye wall with winds recorded at 90 mph.
