The US unincorporated community of Tell is situated in Childress County in the state of Texas. It is located southwest of Childress City that also serves as the county seat. Although this community is yet to be incorporated, it boasts of a post office whose ZIP code is 79259. The community once hosted three churches namely Baptist, Church of Christ, and Methodist. The last two have since closed down, leaving only the Baptist Church. Originally named Lee and Tell-Tale years later, Tell was founded in 1887. Miss Janie Roberts was a teacher at the first school located south of town’s current site. A post office was opened here in 1888 at the home of Belle Garrison, who would serve as its postmistress. Postal officials shortened the community’s name to Tell.
