The US unincorporated community of Tennessee Colony is located in Anderson County in the state of Texas. The community’s population was 300 in 2000. The community was founded in 1847 by settlers from Alabama and Tennessee. They named it after one of their home states. Among the first settlers in the area included Seagler, Hank, Avant, and Shelton. Its moist climate and fertile soil made it ideal for cotton growing, leading to the establishment of several cotton plantations. One such plantation, which was among the largest in East Texas, was known as the Jackson Plantation. Tennessee Colony was granted a post office in 1852.
