The Woodlands is a community and a census-designated place in the U.S. state of Texas. It is part of the Houston-The Woodlands-Sugar Land metropolitan area that is located in Montgomery County, with some parts extending to Harris County. Although the area started when Mitchell Energy and Development Corporation planned the community in 1971, it wasn’t until 1974 that it was founded and the homes were made available for purchase. Since the original plan included environmental aspects, the town continued to grow both as a residential and a commercial community. Many big companies moved to the area to set up their operations. The Woodlands also features the Town Center, which includes shopping and dining facilities. It also presents its 90-mile hike and bike trails, 70 parks, and a 200-acre lake. As of 2018, it has an estimated population of 116,278.
