Tioga is a town in Grayson County and is part of the Sherman-Denison Metropolitan Statistical Area. Tioga was founded in 1881 when a railroad was built through the area. On one note, it was named after the Tioga Indian Tribe of New York. Other resources stated that a railroad staff who gets water from the local well named the area Tioga, after the New York Indian word that means “fair and beautiful” or “swift current.” In 1884, one blacksmith found out that the local water had some medicinal characteristics; his burnt hand instantly healed as soon as he bathed in the well. As a result, many big water companies and health enthusiasts got attracted to the site. It was reported that ten trainloads of guests visited the area every day. The number of residents steadily grew since the beginning of its time. As of 2010, it has a population of 803.
