Tivoli is a census-designated place and an unincorporated community in Refugio County, Texas. It is located at the junction of SH 35 and SH 39, near the Guadalupe River. Preston R. Austin, rancher and entrepreneur, founded the site in 1907; he named it Tivoli Ranch. Shortly after, the townsite was platted. When a railway was extended through the area, Tivoli was re-platted, doubling the original size of the town. The town soon became a shipping center for area ranchers and cotton farmers. That, with the addition of tourism, oil and gas remained to be Tivoli’s primary economic activities. As of 2010, it has a population of 479.
