Todd Mission is a city in Grimes County that can be found in the U.S. state of Texas. It is located at the junction of FM 1774 and MoPac in the extreme southeast region of the county that was established in 1900 as a railroad depot. The settlement was named after Mr. Todd, a railroad officer who also constructed a lumber mill nearby. A year later, the post office was inaugurated and by 1910, Todd Mission had 100 residents who were serviced by three lumber mills and a general store. The town largely depended on its agriculture, trading, forestry, hunting, and fishing economy; it didn’t have any manufacturing industry. Nevertheless, Todd Mission has been home to the Texas Renaissance Festival since 1974. The annual fair features “the nation’s largest Renaissance theme park.” As of 2010, Todd Mission has a population of 107 and an estimated 120 residents in 2019.
