Tokio is an unincorporated community in Terry County, Texas. It is located at the junction of US 82/380 and a local road, west of Brownfield in the extreme west of the county. Mrs. H. L. Ware founded the site in 1908; she named it after the old spelling of the capital of Japan. Although Tokio has been a farming area close to oil and gas fields, the number of its residents did not grow as much; it’s highest recorded population was 125 in the 1940s. As of 2000, it has a population of 24. To date, the community lies predominantly in ruins.
