Tom Bean is a city in Grayson County and is part of the Sherman-Denison Metropolitan Statistical Area. It is located on SH 11, FM 902, and FM 2729, southeast of the county. Tom Bean was established in 1888 as a railroad depot. In the hope of extending the railroad across Grayson County, the city was named after Tom Bean, a surveyor and a landowner in the county who donated land for the townsite and the railroad’s right-of-way. A post office was inaugurated within that year and the town was incorporated a couple of years later. The number of residents gradually grew as the town continued to develop; Cotton has been the city’s economic mainstay. As of 2010, it has a population of 1,045.
