Toyahvale is an unincorporated community in southern Reeves County, Texas. It is located along SH 17 and FM 3078, south of the county. It was founded after the county was formed in 1884 but it wasn’t until a decade after that the town received its post office. Toyahville, just like the nearby town of Toyah, was named after the Indian word “toyah,” which means “water.” The combination of English words “valley” and “dale” was just added to the name to create a distinction from Toyah. Toyahvale has been as a railway depot and the site of the Balmorhea State Park. Despite its considerable location, the number of residents in this community didn’t grow at all. The town reached its zenith in 1926 when the population peaked at 150. But throughout the 19th century, the town had an average of 42 residents. As of 2000, it has a population of 60.
