Trenton is a city in Fannin and Grayson counties, Texas. It is located on SH 121, US 69, State Highway Spur 220, FM 151, FM 814, and FM 815, southwest of Fannin County. The site was first settled in 1852. Back then, it was known as Wild Cat Thicket, in reference to the abundant wild cats and other wild animals in the area. Trenton was named after the capital city of New Jersey. Cotton, corn, and oats were the city’s primary crops throughout the 18th and early 19th centuries, until the town started onion production in the early 1930s. The new crop grew rapidly and so was Trenton, especially its population. By the 1980s, the town became the third-largest shipping center for onions in North Texas. As of 2010, it has a population of 635.
