Trinidad is a city in Henderson County, Texas. It is located on St. Louis Southwestern Railway and FM 1667, west of the county. The area was first settled before 1840 when a local ferry ran across the nearby Trinity River, which was formerly known as Trinidad River. The site was known as Trinity Switch until it became a St. Louis Southwestern Railway station in 1880. Later that year, the residents applied for a post office and the name Trinidad, instead of Trinity Switch, was chosen; however, it wasn’t until 1891 when the post office was inaugurated. Trinidad remained to be a small community; in 1910, it only had 70 residents. But, when an electric company and a chemical fertilizer manufacturer established a plant on the river, the town increased its residents. As of 2010, it has a population of 886.
