Trinity is a city in Trinity County, Texas. It is located at the junction of SH 19, SH 94, FM 230, FM 356, and FM 1617, southwest of the county. It was still known as Kayser’s Prairie when it was founded in 1871. Upon the completion of the railroad station in 1872, the community started naming it Trinity Station and then Trinity City, until they finally decided to drop the extra words and name it Trinity, in reference to the nearby Trinity River. Two catastrophic fires destroyed the town but it was rebuilt and incorporated twice as well. Cotton, agriculture, steel and pulpwood manufacturing, and lumbering were its primary economic activities. The Texas Department of Corrections also contributed to its growth. The town features a lot of churches, civic organizations, outdoor recreational facilities, and a national forest. As of 2010, it has a population of 2,697.
