Located in the southwestern corner of Hall County, Turkey was first called Turkey Roost for Turkey Creek and the roosting turkeys there. The first settlers arrived in 1890s. The town plat was recorded in 1907. Twenty years later, the railroad arrived. Major crops in Turkey were cotton, watermelons, peanuts, and sweet potatoes. Turkey is best known as the home of Bob Wills, the King of Western Swing. He formed the Texas Playboys band. The former Turkey school buildings were purchased by The Bob Wills Foundation, where the Bob Wills Museum is located in. The Foundation also built a Bob Wills monument and Bob Wills Park.
