Vigo Park is located between Palo Duro and Tule canyons near the eastern border of Swisher County. The formation of the area was the result of a real estate venture in the early 1900s. the name Vigo Park came from Vigo and Parke counties in Indiana which were former homes of the settlers recruited by the Indiana-Texas Land Company. The company had bought 4,420 acres of land belonging to JA Ranch and laid out the townsite. It was formerly named Vio which was renamed to Vigo Park in 1908. Irrigation, livestock raising and farming were the main source of revenue. Vigo Park remained an active rural community without a railroad.
