Formerly known as Concordia, Walburg is a German community located 23 miles northeast of Austin in Williamson County. The town was named after Henry Doering’s hometown. He built the first general store in 1881 and a post office in 1886. By the 1890s the town was a judicial seat and a shipping point. There were other ethnic groups in the area including German, Wendish, Czechoslovakian, Austrian, and Swiss. Commercial activity has declined since the 1970s. In 2000 the population of the town was 250. Founded on March 31, 1889, the St. Pete Lutheran Church is known as ‘The Friendly Little Church in the Valley’.
