Located along State Highway 36 and BNSF Railway between Rosenberg and Sealy, Wallis is a city in southeastern Austin County, Texas. Initially named Bovine Bend, the town was renamed Wallis Station after J. E. Wallis who was the director of the Gulf, Colorado, and Santa Fe Railway. The town dropped “Station” from its name to become Wallis in 1911. The town of Wallis sits on the banks of the Brazos River which is the longest river in Texas. The river makes Wallis and the surrounding land extremely fertile and profitable farmland. Wallis has also been featured in the 2009 documentary The Heart of Texas.
