Weir is a city in Williamson County, in the U.S. state of Texas. It is located on the MKT Railroad, at the junction of FM 971 and FM 1105, in the central part of the county. It was founded in 1900 as a railroad depot and was named after Calvin Weir, an early settler from Tennessee back in the 1850s. When the nearby town of Townsville was bypassed by the railroad, its residents moved to Weir and they became the area’s pioneer settlers. A catastrophic flood in 1913 ceased several of its local businesses. That, followed by a severe drought, WWI, and the Great Depression tremendously declined the number of souls in Weir. In 1987, Weir was incorporated and as of 2010, it has a population of 450.
