Wellborn was an unincorporated community in Brazos County, in the U.S. state of Texas. It is located on FM 2154 and the SP Railroad, south of the county, and it is part of the Bryan-College Station Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded in 1867 when a railroad was built nearby and the area was used as its construction camp. It was named after either E. W. Wellborn, the railroad foreman, or W. W. Wilburn, a landowner in the area. A store, cotton gin, and lumberyard were among the town’s first businesses. It also became a cattle-shipping center for area ranchers. The community submitted the name Wellborn’s Station for a post office, but the second word was dropped eventually. The number of residents remained to be relatively small as the town only had twenty businesses, a post office, a community center, and the Wellborn Water Utilities to serve them. From 1987 to the year 2000, it had a population of 100.
