Wellman is a city in Terry County, in the U.S. state of Texas. It is located on US 62 or 385, FM 213, and FM 303, southwest of the county. It was founded in 1918 as a railroad shipping point and was named after Augustus Ogden Wellman, a railroad official. A four-room schoolhouse and a church were among its first establishments. Seven years later, a post office was inaugurated and it underwent operation until the 1980s. When the Great Depression hit the town, it only had 40 residents, but it had grown to 200 in less than a decade. However, the number remained relatively steady throughout the years. As of 2010, it has a population of 203.
