West Lake Hills, also known as Westlake, is a city in Travis County, in the U.S. state of Texas that is located on FM 2244, west of downtown Austin, in the west-central part of the county. It is also a suburb of Austin, Texas. The town was incorporated in 1953 and it served as a bedroom community for Austin employees. West Lake Hills was able to acquire a fire engine, along with other fire-fighting equipment, through the voluntary contributions of its townsmen. The area quickly developed through the 1970s and 1980s being on the southern shore of the Colorado River. It is also the only city that is completely within the highly-ranked Eanes Independent School District. The number of residents gradually grow over time. As of 2010, it has a population of 3,063.
