Westhoff is an unincorporated community in DeWitt County, in the U.S. state of Texas. It is located on US 87, in the extremely northwestern part of the county. The town was established in 1906 as a railroad depot. Back then, it was still named as Bello. The town was renamed Westhoff when the application for a post office was submitted and rejected due to the confusion it brought with that of Bells in Grayson County, Texas. It was named after William Westhoff, Sr., an early settler of the Upper Meyersville. The community grew quickly as a market and shipping center; the town ginned 4,800 bales of cotton yearly until boll weevil infested the area. Despite that and the catastrophic fire that knocked down thirteen of its businesses, the number of residents remained considerably steady, peaking at 500 from the mid-1920s to the mid-1960s. From 1985 to 2000, the population remained to be at 410.
