Whiteface is a town in Cochran County, in the U.S. state of Texas that is located on SH 114, in the east-central part of the county. It was established in 1924, when the area was platted near the town of Pettit and potential land buyers were lured with a huge barbecue. A lumberyard, a grocery store, a schoolhouse, and a small hotel were among the early businesses in the area. Within a year, a railroad was built and the townsmen moved near the tracks. The new site became J. C. Whaley ranch headquarters. A paved road was completed in 1928, and in less than a decade, an oilfield was discovered south of the town. The town largely depended on oil and farming, along with several surrounding ranches. The number of residents peaked in the 1940s with 600 souls. As of 2010, it has a population of 449.
